.St. Martin's is one of the islands that form the archipelago of the Isles of Scilly. We are situated just 28 miles from Lands End, Cornwall. A warm welcome is waiting for you on St. Martin's, so come and enjoy our spectacular scenery, outstanding cliff top views, pure crystal clear water and white sand beaches. To get to us you can either catch a boat from Penzance or take a plane and fly into St. Mary's (the largest island), then a short boat ride over to St. Martins.
The St. Martin's island website is the perfect place to find details of travelling to and from the islands, with lots of information about activities and sights to see, plus it has a comprehensive list of accommodation that is available on St. Martin's. For more information about travelling to the Isles of Scilly, visit Isles of Scilly Travel. The Isles of Scilly Official Tourism website is a goldmine of information about all the islands that you can visit here.
If you love the natural world and being outdoors, Scilly is a wonderful destination for a holiday. We have been named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and have 26 sites of scientific special interest. We have unspoiled landscapes, an abundance of unique flora and fauna, plus locally-sourced food and drink and friendly, welcoming communities. During the day you can explore the island and visit its many artisan businesses, go island-hopping, beach-combing (Lawrence's Bay on St Martin's is a hot-spot for cowries and wentletraps!), hire kayaks and paddleboards from the beautiful Par Beach, or snorkel with seals, all before you join us for a night of stargazing!
Our observatory on St. Martin's is located in the middle of the island behind our Community Hall & Reading Room. This is the perfect place to look up into the unpolluted darkness and study the universe. There is no virtually no light pollution on the islands, which means we have incredibly dark skies. On a clear night, with a blanket of stars above you and the Milky Way spread across the sky in all its splendour, you really will marvel at the wonders of space. It is the beauty of our natural environment that we are eager to share with others.
Though it might feel a world away, St. Martin's is still on Earth. We sadly can't guarantee darkness in the summer months, or cloud-free skies at any point.
Have a look at the Campaign for Rural England's interactive map of the least polluted skies in the UK and see how we compare!
